Holly Hunter is a well-known American actor, producer and director. She has been praised for movies like Broadcast News The Firm The Piano The Incredibles and The Incredibles. The movie Piano earned her numerous awards which included an Oscar. The accomplished actress started her acting career on the stage through a variety of Broadway and Off-Broadway projects. The actress has always had an interest in acting from the time when she was in the high school. Her first role in a production in fifth grade was as Helen Keller. When she was in the fifth grade due to mumps, she lost hearing in her left ear. She did not let it stop her from performing. She studied drama at college before moving between Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania to New York City to follow her dream. Hunter had her Broadway debut due to an unplanned conversation and Beth Henley, a playwright. The two worked together on Broadway Crimes of the Heart. Her first film role came following her move in Los Angeles. In the years since, she has been in numerous films and television series and movies in a long career that spans over three decades. Holly Hunter was awarded a Hollywood Walk of Fame Star as well as the Women in Film Lucy Award.
